Radia

Radia is an international, informal network of radio stations who produce, share and broadcast radio art works. Since its inception in 2005 it has promoted a weekly radio art programme, each station taking turns in asking an artist of its choice to produce a radio art piece to be broadcast on all network stations. Besides this ongoing effort, Radia stations also participate and produce radio art programmes in the context of festivals and other contexts. More can be found about Radia at http://r...

What do invisible sounds fancy? by Philippe Petit « One morning when I woke up I heard a sound that I could not recognize, consequently I wondered about its origin, its existence and its possible correspondences. Our perception of a sound or a music is not the same if we can locate its source, see how it is produced, by what, by whom and therefore I wanted to compose a soundtrack retracing the imaginary of what the sounds we do not hear would do if meeting those which are invisible to us. How...

There were many Dada's. They have inhabited different cities, were named with many names, some were left unknown, others nameless. Borderlessness is written all over Dada's body. She is not offended and she makes offenses. Directing infinity back to its own beginnings makes Dada capable of recurrently establishing clarity. Crossing and dismantling sense out of borders and limits - we know them as obstacles, as constraints, as objects to walk over, dodge and evade. For its destruction and...

Parahrono Time in isolation has turned into an amorphous mass. Repetitive housebound activities render even the most well-organised of us struggling to keep track of time. Desperately seeking to extract an iota of excitement, mundane occurrences are seen in new light. With a pair of Cageian ears and through the assistance of trusty intoxicants, the busy street by the window turns into a clamorous symphony; each vehicle becomes a distinct instrument, with their different tyres, transmissions,...

All That Is Solid Melts Into Air (Radia Version) is a transmission work that is an extension of the work done for Maximilian Goldfarb’s  Deep Cycle  (2010). The piece is composed of a series of maps that trace a path through all Radia Network stations in Europe. The maps are then encoded to sound through a protocol for transmission of images over radio known as slow-scan television, or SSTV (in this case, Robot 72s Color). The piece re-interprets the solid as air through the processes of...

Then that is little time to read again Mathew (24-25) or the Book of Revelations. This work started with the will to use the words of a preacher i recorded few years ago in Basel (CH). Sensation is the body’s detection of external or internal stimulation (e.g., eyes detecting light waves, ears detecting sound waves). Perception utilizes the brain to make sense of the stimulation (e.g., seeing a chair, hearing a guitar). Sensation involves three steps: Sensory receptors detect stimuli. Sensory stimuli are transduced into electrical impulses (action potentials) to be decoded by the brain. Electrical impulses move along neural pathways to specific parts of the brain wherein...

Show 507: Against the tide Posted on   2014/12/15   by   Soundart A programme from Soundart Radio in South Devon, UK, about the River Dart. We walked down to the river for a listen, and asked people that we met for their stories. Some of these stories we put into bottles and threw back in. We send this programme out into the world along with seven small glass bottles, and ask you to get in touch should you find one. Produced by Rafael Aptroot, James Blagdon, Sue Coulson, Robert Davidson,...

By Emeka Ogboh for reboot.fm RADIO 0-3-0 combines a vast array of recorded audio materials such as news reports, interviews and music into a radio program, which examines the refugees’ situation in Berlin. He thus inquires how the city as such is reacting to the situation. The sound installation RADIO 0-3-0 invited the visitors to stay and listen during a local mini-fm broadcast at the Gorki Theatre in Berlin as part of the Herbstsalon in October, 2015. This radia.fm compilation is extracted...

From all the possible outcomes this is just one of them. Two turntables to make one landscape. The turntables has a companion history with radio. For a long time, before the advent of clean and sanitized studios and the contact with the physical record was abstracted to bits and bites, the needle jumped on the groove and squided through the spiral of sound. Pedro Lopes paired two of these old tools of work and made them talk to each other. From all the possible outcomes this is just one of...

The adventures of Khaosz Kapitany The Adventures of Khaosz Kapitany is the craze of our Sunday nights at Tilos – as it has been for 7 years. The general concept of the show is to gather rare music, sounds, voices and use the characteristics of the studio space – with its gadgets, and Sunday-night hangers around reading auspicious texts to create strange atmospheres. The present compilation is a mix of music by Nino Rota, Felix Kubin, Sam and the Pharaoes, Alice Coltrain, Albert Einstein...

If we could hear the voice of nature, what would it say? And could humans use technology to strengthen their connection with nature? Starting with the music and letting this guide the story, the Assisi Machine is a thrilling murder mystery which puts electronic sound technology at the heart of the action. The show features three drone music sound collages which help move the plot along. Parts of the play are written in dramatic verse, a favourite form of Shakespeare and Goethe, which is almost...

Wherever the earth is crag and scrub, the goats are there—the black ones, girlishly skipping, leaping their little leaps from rock to rock. I’ve loved their nerve and frisk since I was small. Once my grandfather gave me one of my own. He showed me how I could serve myself when I got hungry, from the full-feeling bags there like warmish wineskins, where I’d let my hands linger some before bringing my mouth close, so the milk wouldn’t go to waste on my face, my neck, even my naked chest,...

Space – We – Space. A binaural SoundWalk Composition The city is music. Daily sounds become extraordinary by a shift in perspective. Just get a little bit closer. Objects speaking. Resonance is anywhere. Listen. Let go. Drift. And find a wonderful, creepy, and ensouled world in the hidden sounds. This binaural field recording composition is based on a sound walk by Geräuschkulisse that took place on November 10, 2019, during Seanaps Festival for transdisciplinary music in Leipzig. The...

TATIN ! Let’s start with the recipe ! Collective realization of a sound-culinary experience The practice of sound can be conceived, thought and realized in a body, in a spirit, an author, an artist. But the sound can also be shared. And what’s better than the pleasures of the mouth to get in touch with the sound material. These sound materials brought by the participants of the Sound Studies of this season, are staged, implemented within a recipe that has become a graphic score. Everyone...

Flavien Gillié : Homeless I’ve been recording homeless people for a few years now, talking to me, or sometimes talking. Generally I geolocate them on a soundmap, it’s a way for me to tell where they have been, where they lived. This Radia creation is a montage of various recordings from Homeless people in Brussels.

“Tractatus illogico-insanus” is a mixture of parody (of Wittgenstein’s famous „Tractatus logico-philosophicus“ which he wrote exactly 100 years ago in the summer of 1918), also influenced by Walter Serner’s “Last Loosening” and Hermann Burger’s own “Tractatus logico-suicidalis”. In short, it’s the author’s musing on the surveillance state – a situation that is at once absurd, manic and cutting, inherently illogical— wherein all participants acquiesce to being...
